An Experimental Study on Intonation of Chinese Declarative Sentences by Japanese Students

Abstract: According to"Intonation Pattern", using prosodic matching paradigm, we quantitatively investigate the intonation of Chinese declarative sentences by Japanese students on pitch, duration and intensity. Our findings reveal that the Japanese students get positive value on both single cross matching and across items matching, to some extent, due to the similar characteristics and the universality between Chinese and Japanese tone. However, this positive value is still lower than that of Chinese students and disperses greatly because of the lag of semantic processing mechanism.
