Abstract: Objective To study the indications of electric acupuncture for female stress urinary incontinence. Methods Thirty-two female patients with stress urinary incontinence were randomly divided into eight groups according to the orthogonal design list L8( 27) with three factors and two levels, with 4 cases in each group. The subjects were treated with electric acupuncture at points Zhongliao( BL33) and Huiyang( BL35),once every other day, three times a week for eight weeks. Taking 1 h leakage of urine pad test and scores of the questionnaire of the international continence society( ICI-Q-SF) as index, the researchers observed influence of A( age: 40 ~ 60 years and 61 ~ 75years),B( residual urine volume of bladder: 0 ml and 1 ~ 30 ml) and C( maximum urinary flow rate: > 30 ml / s,20 ~ 30 ml / s) of the patients to curative effects of electric acupuncture. Results After treatment with electric acupuncture, intuitive assay values of 1 h leakage of urine pad test were RA = 1. 250,RB = 0. 300,and RC =0. 225; Intuitive assay values of ICI-Q-SF scores were RA = 3. 213,RB = 2. 413,and RC = 0. 088. There were no statistical significant differences among the three factors( P > 0. 05). Results from 1 h leakage of urine pad test showed that the best therapeutic effect of electric acupuncture was obtained for patients with female stress urinary incontinence when their age were 61 ~ 75 years, their residual urine volume of bladder was 0 ml,and maximum urinary flow rate was 30 ml / s. ICI-Q-SF scores indicated that the best results were achieved when patients’ age were 40 ~ 60 years, residual urine volume of bladder was 0 ml,and maximum urinary flow rate > 30 ml / s. Conclusion The best indications of electric acupuncture for treating female stress urinary are that the age of patient is 40 ~ 60 years, residual urine volume of bladder is 0 ml and maximum urinary flow rate > 30 ml / s.
