Abstract: Penta-O -galloyl -D -glucose is a polyphenolic compound in many kinds of medicinal plants. Resent studies have shown that penta-O-galloyl-D-glucose can improve glucose tolerance and insulin-resistance,inhibit the activity of α-glucosidase and 11-β-HSD-1,inhibit the aggregation of IAPP and advanced glycation end products,imi-tate insulin,stimulate glucose transporter,improve diabetic nephropathy,diabetic neuropathy and diabetic angiopathy. Penta-O-galloyl-D-glucose exhibits the high value of treating type 2 diabetes and complications,penta-O-galloyl-D-glucose has some conditions to be the lead compound for treating diabetes.
