Abstract: Objective To observe and evaluate the clinical effecacy of electro-acupuncture on female stress urinary incontinence(SUI),to make clear whether the depth of needling is one of the key factors influencing clinical efficacy of acupuncture. Methods Forty cases of female SUI patients conformed to the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into a study group and a control group,20 cases in each group.Zhongliao(BL33) and Huiyang(BL35) were selected for electro-acupuncture deeply in the study group, while shallowly in the control group,5 times a week for 4 consecutive weeks. The clinical efficacy was evaluated with efficacy index, including 1-hour urine pad test and ICS urinary incontinence questionnaire(ICI-QS-F),recommended by International Continence Society. Results After treatment, the volume of urinary incontinence decreased by(2.10±2.26)g in the study group and(0.64±0.97)g in the control group for 1-hour urine pad test, with significant difference(P < 0.05).The scores of ICI-QS-F decreased by(7.00±3.01) in the study group and(3.26±2.75) in the control group, with significant difference(P < 0.01).Conclusion Electro-needling deeply at Zhongliao(BL33) and Huiyang(BL35) is effective for the treatment of female SUI,which is therapeutic effect, rather than placebo effect. Moreover, the depth of needling is one of the key factors influencing clinical efficacy of acupuncture.
