Abstract: In recent research papers which focuses on corruption in China,Chinese scholars always directly use or reference the conceptions and theories of corruption which has been built by the western scholars. But scholars researching on corruption ignore the "face" which is pervasive cultural conception in our society and plays a normative role in social behavior.Under the cultural logic of emphasis on harmonious interpersonal relationships, requester or state functionary tends to "give face" to maintain close relationship between each other. And this process leads to a separation between "moral face" and "social face".So individuals in our society identify with honest behavior or "moral face" from the perspective of value, but prefer to obtain "social face" through corruption behavior from the perspective of reality.
