Hydrogen and Oxygen Isotope Composition of Kaolinites and Its Implication to Mengqiguer Uranium Deposit,Xinjiang

Abstract: Mengqiguer sandstone type uranium deposit is famous for its high enrichment of uranium and strong kaolinization in uranium host sandstones.The genesis study of kaolinization is helpful to investigate the extraordinary enrichment mechanism of uranium.By collecting sample of sandstones with strong kaolinization,quantitative analysis of clay minerals,scanning electron microscope observation, kaolinites was extracted and H O isotope was tested.The content of Kaolinites varied from 68.5% to 75.7% and seldom changed in all samples,which indicates that kaolinization is ordinary in all geochemi-cal zones of target strata. Kaolinites in the deposit bear two typical crystal shapes,those formed during the sedimentary and diaginetic processes are of fine crystal morphology with crystal size from 10 to 20μm and is uncommon,others formed in epigenetic leaching are of microcrystal and sheet shapes with crystal size from 1 to 5μm.The kaolinite's δDV SMOW is 93‰ to 48.3‰ and it's δ1 8 O V SMOW is 9.55‰ to 4.49‰,which indicate that the kaolinites are mostly formed from silicate minerals leached by interlayer fluids originated from the meteoric water,and with the process of uranium precipitation and enrichment.
