Research on Preparation Technology of Cobalt with Small Grain Size and High Apparent Density

Abstract: Using cobalt dichloride solution as material, the cobalt carbonate was prepared by using NH4 HCO3 as the precip-itator, and cobalt was obtained followed by calcination-reduction process.The influencing factors of terminal pH, comple-xing reagent, contact time on apparent density, particle size of cobalt carbonate were investigated.The optimum process in-volved the terminal pH of 6.7~7.0, NH3:Co molar ratio of 1.4~1.5:1, contact time of 120~150 min.The results showed that the prepared cobalt carbonate had sphere shape with an average diameter of 5.0μm.Calcinated the prepared cobalt car-bonate at 600~700℃, followed by reduction process by using hydrogen at 470~500 ℃ for 4~6 h, the cobalt was ob-tained.The result showed that the Fisss particle size of obtained cobalt under 1.0μm, apparent density above 0.8 g/cm3 , oxygen content under 0.5%.
