Abstract: Relations between mechanical properties and microstrutures of duplexmatrix ductile iron and Al-Si alloy are investigated.The two alloys have similar eutectiesimilar base microstruetures and mechanical properties.However,primary silicon of Al-Si alloy and nodule graphite of ductile iron have a considerable effect on the mechanical mechanisim of the structures,and there arpear some differences between the two alloys.Introduction of plastic phases into the microstrucures also affect the mechanical properites of the two alloys,though the affected mechanisms are different from each other.Therefore,it is suggested that the alloys which have similar miccostructures to those of ductile iron may be fit to obtain higher mechanical properties than the alloys whose microstruc- tures are similar to those of Al-Si alloy.
